The finished kitchen is a pretty big change from the original kitchen. The layout was changed somewhat to resolve some of the problems in the original kitchen. The refrigerator was moved closer to the sink and counters. The range was moved from the island to the back wall. The island was reconfigured to be a better work space, including a second sink, and to provide better seating on the back side of it. The angles on the island and the angled position of the island fit well with the angles of the room. The sink was moved to the corner to provide generous counter space between the sink and the range - also making the great view of the private back yard prominent whether working at the sink or using that prime counter / prep space between the sink and range.
The cabinets are maple in a warm nutmeg finish. Most of the base storage is provided by easy access drawers on full extension soft close guides. The counter tops are New Venetian Gold granite. There is a tiled backsplash behind all work counters that is made of 4x4 tumbled marble with a few 2x2 onyx inserts for accent. There is a diagonal section of tile bordered with a liner that provides some subtle detail over the range. The old ceramic tile floor was replaced with warmer hardwood flooring.
The appliances are all stainless steel, including the french-door counter depth refrigerator and the GE Cafe dual fuel slide-in range. The microwave is installed in the wall cabinets where it has easy access and does not interfere with the use of the counter space.
Recessed lights and bright xenon undercabinet lights provide great overall kitchen lighting as well as task lighting, all controlled by digital dimmers.
