Here are some finished pictures of this kitchen in Madeira. This kitchen went through a major transition. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was opened up by widening the existing doorway to just a few inches from the cabinets on both sides. Keeping the header across the opening allowed keeping the coved ceiling in the dining room - part of the character of the house.
The hardwood floor in the dining room was extended into the kitchen and front hall/foyer. The soffits were removed and cabinets now go to the ceiling. Matching cabinets were added to the dining room for additional storage. A built-in counter height table of matching granite is situated between shallow pantry cabinets.
The new cabinets are stained and glazed maple. The new counters are granite and the porcelain tile backsplash provides a finishing touch. Recessed lighting provides ample light as well as ambiance. The work counters are also well lighted with bright xenon under cabinet lighting. All lighting is controlled by digital dimmers.
